Attending to the theme and objectives of the Dubrovnik Conferences, as well as to the sustainability concerns of the Local Organizing Committee in setting up these events, it has been decided that the indirect emissions resulting from the conference would be offset, making the event “e)mission certified “.

e)mission has been chosen as the official offsetter for this conference, due to the high quality of service, as well as a special, innovative negotiated agreement with the organizers of the conference, generating added value for participants.

The offset:

To compensate for the use of power, water, gas and fuel in local transport, as well as use of paper and generation of waste, 10 tonnes of CO2eq have been offset. The carbon credits used for this compensation are Verified Emission Reductions (VER) resulting from high quality projects in energy efficiency, renewables or biogas avoidance in developing countries, using quality standards of the United Nations. This offset does not account for the carbon emissions of participants´ air travel.

Innovative “Special Assistance Fund”:

Conference participants are encouraged to offset the emissions of their own air travel to Dubrovnik (or Split). For each travel offset purchased online at www.e-missionneutral.org up to one week before the conference, 20% of the net price will be earmarked for the 2009 Dubrovnik Conference Special Assistance Fund. A simple to use online travel carbon calculator is provided.

This Fund will serve to co-finance the travel or participation costs of interested parties in attending the Conference, who otherwise could not afford to participate. This fund is aimed to benefit participants from countries in Africa interested in participating. Decisions relating to the allocation of this fund are discretionary by the Local Organizing Committee, and potential beneficiaries should contact this Committee for more information.

In addition to the contribution to the Special Assistance Fund, Conference participants who offset their travel carbon emissions will also receive, on arrival in Dubrovnik:

Personalized and numbered “ e)mission neutral certified “ certificate;

Event-specific conference offset card with information on amount of carbon offset for the event and on the offset itself;

e)mission “I´m flying CO2 neutral” luggage tags

All paper products provided by e)mission are printed on elemental chlorine free, Forestry Stewardship Council certified paper.
