The Awards Committee of the SDEWES Conference has decided to grant awards in three categories:
- the best paper(s),
- the best poster(s),
- the honorary award for the distinguished contribution to the SDEWES conference.
The criteria for the awards are:
- The best paper
- Relevance to the conference
- Significance to the conference topics
- Originality of the paper
- Contribution to the state of knowledge
- Technical quality
- Presentation quality

AWARDS FROM THE 2011 Dubrovnik Conference
The honorary award for distinguished contribution to the SDEWES conference
Professor Naim Afgan was the key person and driving force for starting the Conference in 2002 in Dubrovnik.
He was the first chairman of the International Scientific Committee. His contribution has been appreciated
and acknowledged by all conference participants during this time. His ideas and international connections
assured and directed development of the Conference to the present level. The Awards Committee has decided
to ask Professor Naim Afgan to accept this award.

The award for best poster of the SDEWES2011 conference went to:
- Removal of phenol from aqueous solutions onto activated carbon derived from bean crop waste by chemical activation

The award consists of a certificate and a fee waiver for the next conference SDEWES’13. The Awards Committee
reserves the right to grant more than one award in each category, in case of close competition.
